Emergency Aid Collection for Flood Victims in the Balkans
Help the victims of flooding!
Caritas Finland has begun an emergency relief collection to help the victims of the floods in the Balkan region. Torrential rains have caused a regional disaster and the local Caritas organisations are struggling to cope. Caritas Finland's contribution will be channelsed through Caritas Internationalis.
Caritas helps the victims of the flooding in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The local Caritas organisations are distributing food, clothes and hygiene packages to people in need. Several rivers have burst their bansk and forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes.
Caritas Serbia reports that 80 per cent of the town of Obrenovac near Belgrade is under water. The situation is also critical in Lazarevac, Sabac, Krupanj, Sremska och Ub as well as in Mitrovica. In Ub some 2,500 houses are submerged.
EU is also helping the victims of the floods in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
