Greetings from Caritas office!
This year is the 60th anniversary of Caritas Finland and thus we have planned many special activities. In April we will have an Anniversary Seminar straight after the Annual General Meeting. In the fall we will continue the celebrations with an Anniversary dinner. We warmly welcome all our members and friends to join the festivities!
Caritas Finland is an active and evolving 60-year-old. This year we are especially widening our domestic activities. YoungCaritas volunteers have started a regular distribution of waste food at St. Henry’s Cathedral in cooperation with Helsinki City waste food terminal. Later this spring we will start recycling clothes collected at Zara and Massimo Dutti stores in Finland to be distributed to those in need or sold for the support of our charitable activities.
We warmly thank for all the donations for our collections in the end of the year! With the donations, we managed to give 70 families food coupons for Christmas. Our advent collection for Syrian refugees in Jordan generated more than 8 000 euros. With these funds, Caritas’ clinics will be able to give medical treatment and medication to people who otherwise would not afford to be treated.
Welcome to the Annual General Meeting and Caritas’ anniversary seminar!
The Annual General Meeting of Caritas Finland will be held in the Parish Hall of St. Henry’s Cathedral (Pyhän Henrikin aukio 1) on Monday April 20th at 4.30 pm. Coffee will be served. Welcome!
The 60th year anniversary seminar of Caritas Finland will be held in the Angelicum Hall at the Studium Catholicum (Ritarikatu 3B) on Tuesday April 21st. The speakers and detailed schedule will be announced later.
Caritas helps around the world
Caritas Finland’s water project in the Bolivian Andes was completed at the end of last year. Apart from bringing clean water to the villages, the project inspired the villagers to make many other changes in their villages, too. We will inform more about the results of the project following the monitoring trip in March.
In cooperation with Inter-Cultur ry we have supported building a kitchen and a dining hall for St. Augustine boarding school in Kenya. The construction work is almost finished and soon the over 400 pupils of the school no longer have to eat outside or in cramped classrooms. This year Caritas and Inter-Cultur will also support Iwoka programme in Pereira, Colombia, to prevent social exclusion of young people.
Last year Caritas started to support the Penghibur children home in Java, Indonesia, and this year the cooperation will deepen after the local Catholic diocese has taken charge of the children home. The children home has been run by Anna-Liisa Jaanu Ismudjito for over 30 years and she is now going to return back to Finland after all the years in Indonesia.
