Because of the high level of education provided by St Cyprian Chavanod College children from well-to-do families apply to the school, but thanks to the collaboration with Caritas Finland children from deprived backgrounds as well as children orphaned by AIDS can also receive a good education.
St. Cyprian Chavanod College has 326 pupils. The boarding school is home to 142 girls and 71 boys, with the boys housed in a separate diocesan hostel.

Giving young people the gift of education
St. Cyprian Chavanod College is the diocesan school of Kasana Luweero Diocese in Uganda. The school is run by sisters of the order of Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod. In an e-mail to Caritas Finland Sister Alphonse explains how important it is that people in Finland are willing to help pupils at the school - not just because of what it means for the pupils themselves, but for the whole area.
'We are ever grateful to Caritas Finland for your support. Today Kasana Luweero residents are grateful that they have a good Catholic School in the area. We owe a lot to each and every benefactor of Caritas Finland for your great support. May the good God Bless you all!' she writes and adds that there are students in every class whose continued education is dependent on assistance from donors.
Sister Alphonse also writes about Steven, whose grades as he finished St. Cyprian Chavanod College were not quite good enough for government selection, but who has secured a place to study medicine. In three years he could become a clinical officer, i.e. a mid-level medical professional able to independently treat patiens. Clinical officers are needed in the region, so the training would also mean that Steven could support himself and his family. To pay for the first semester of the three-year course Steven's mother has sold a small piece of land, but he cannot continue his studies without support from for instance Finland.
